What to do in Kacwin

After lunch at Nowy Targ (a town in Poland) we visited the castle at Niedzica (http://www.ga.com.pl/niedzica.htm). The castle was gorgeous. It sat atop a hill overlooking a river that had been dammed up. Across the lake was another castle (we didn’t tour it) giving it a very ‘Lord of the Rings’ feel.

We spent the evening in Kacwin, a small town about a 20 minute walk from the Slovakian border. After dinner we had a bonfire with a traditional highlander fold band. We sang, did a little dancing, ate traditional highlander food, and had a few drinks. It was a very fun evening.

The next morning we did a raft cruise along the Dunajec River through the valleys of the Spisz and Pieniny mountain ranges. (http://www.flisacy.com.pl/index.php?p=galeria) The views were incredible. The area reminded me very much of Washington State. The river is a portion of the Polish-Slovak border.

After lunch we headed to Zakopane, a resort town in the mountains (http://inyourpocket.com/poland/zakopane/en/). There we went to the top of Mt Gubalowka where we had great views of Zakopane below and the High Tatras across the valley.
